The Sugar Technologists’ Association of India (STAI) is organizing an All India Seminar on “Bio-CNG in Circular Economy – Challenges & Way Forward” at Kolhapur, the hub of Maharashtra’s sugar industry. The seminar aims to deliberate on the emerging role of Bio-CNG as a clean, renewable energy source and its integration into the circular economy framework of the sugar and allied sectors.

With India accelerating its transition towards sustainable and low-carbon energy solutions, Bio-CNG production from sugar industry by-products such as press mud and spent wash has emerged as a key opportunity.

The seminar will focus on technological advancements, policy support, operational challenges and successful project experiences, highlighting how Bio-CNG can contribute to energy security, waste-to-wealth initiatives, reduction in carbon emissions and enhanced economic viability of sugar mills. 

The programme will be graced by the following dignitaries:

The seminar will feature nine technical presentations by eminent experts from industry, academia, leading technology providers and consultants, offering a comprehensive perspective on the Bio-CNG ecosystem and its future roadmap.

Speaking ahead of the seminar, Mr. Sanjay Awasthi, President, STAI, stated:
“Bio-CNG presents a transformational opportunity for the sugar industry to move beyond conventional operations and become a key contributor to India’s clean energy and circular economy goals.”

The event is expected to witness participation from nearly 150 delegates, including senior executives, technologists, researchers, project developers and policymakers, making it a significant knowledge-sharing platform for the industry.

The proposed conference will provide a platform to discuss the scope, opportunities and challenges in the respective area of environment and development for industry representatives, budding scientists, research students, government officials and academicians. Being a pioneer academic institute in Environment Management, CSIBER Kolhapur has taken the initiative by organizing the International Conference in collaboration with Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).

Original research papers and posters on themes mentioned below will be selected for presentation during the conference. Selected research papers will be published as an edited book with ISBN on the conference theme.
