German Association of Sugar Technologists

Our association was founded in 1891 under the name of Association of Academically Trained Sugar Technologists but since 1898 is called German Association of Sugar Technologists. Our aim is to promote the scientific, technical and practical work in the field by bringing together the chemists and engineers employed in and in support of the sugar industry for their mutual benefit. We also want to further the training of the next generation of technologists. We pursue these ends through

• Meetings

• Publications

• Convocation of prize competitions and encouragement of experiments for the solution of important scientific and technical questions relevant to the sugar industry

• The award of prizes for valuable papers in the area of sugar manufacturing published in the journal Sugar Industry or in other relevant journals.

Regular membership in our association is open to all chemists and engineers employed in and in support of the sugar industry, provided that the applicant is interested in and prepared to contribute actively to the achievement of the association’s objectives.

THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SUGAR CANE TECHNOLOGISTS (ASSCT) is a society interested in the general study of the cane sugar industry in the United States and the dissemination of information to members of the organization through meetings and publications. The ASSCT is comprised of two major branches, the Florida Division and the Louisiana Division. Members of the ASSCT generally associate themselves with one of two membership groups, Agriculture or Manufacturing. The Agriculture group includes individuals interested principally in the growing and harvesting of sugarcane. The Manufacturing group includes individuals interested primarily in the extraction and processing of sucrose from sugarcane.

The Florida and Louisiana Divisions of the ASSCT meet together once annually during June, with the Florida Division hosting this joint meeting during even-numbered years and the Louisiana Division hosting the meeting during odd-numbered years. These annual meetings are held over a two-day period during which members present papers on various subjects associated with the growing and processing of sugarcane for sugar. Each of the two ASSCT Divisions holds a separate meeting each year in their own home-state. The ASSCT publishes an annual journal called The Journal of the American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists in which scientific papers from the annual joint meeting are published. The society also supports academic activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Society activities are funded through membership dues and donations. Donations can be made by check or through the society’s PayPal account.

The DATAGRO Opening Crop – Sugarcane, Sugar and Ethanol is known for kicking off DATAGRO’s calendar of events and for initiating the annual planning of the brazilian sugar-energy sector, marking the opening of the new sugarcane harvest.

It returns in 2026 with its 10th edition.

In 2025, the event was attended by more than 1,500 participants from different regions of the country and offered 16 hours of content presented by more than 80 renowned speakers from the sector.

At this meeting, you will have the opportunity to connect with market decision-makers, entrepreneurs, mill executives, sugarcane producers and suppliers and political leaders.

Participants will have access to analyses of the results of the 2025/26 harvest and projections for the next harvest, as well as being able to take part in debates on key issues for the future of the sector, such as the dynamics of the national and global markets, sustainability, technological innovations and new strategies for diversifying the use of biofuels.
